Our editorial team

Here at Exploration, we would not be able to do what we do without our team of voluntary student and graduate editors. See below to find out more!

Ali Leyland-Collins

Me (2014)Ali became involved with Exploration whilst studying English Literature at Queen Mary, University of London. Before taking on the role of editor-in-chief, she had previously been the editor for both the Oceania and Latin America sections, respectively. She has travelled extensively and has recently returned from a bucket list classic: The Great American Road Trip. Ali first got involved with Exploration because she felt it was time — having kept travel diaries since the age of four — to hone her writing style and to expand her horizons beyond the signature Moleskin notebook. If you feel the same, get in touch with Ali at

Section Editors

Robyn Cummings

Robyn is twenty two, and currently completing her fourth year at the University of East Anglia. She studies American History and Modern History, and has just returned to the U.K. after her year abroad in Oregon. Living in Oregon and travelling around North America has sparked her passion for travel, as well as writing, and she hopes to continue this in her career after she graduates. When she isn’t studying or writing, she is an avid reader, enthusiastic car-singer and doting cat-lover. If you want to write for Asia, get in touch with Robyn at

Amy Watson

amyA graduate of English Literature and Film from Queen Mary, University of London, Amy has lived in the UK and Spain, and is planning to move Germany one day. She has major travel plans ranging from a Route 66 road trip to roaming across the Isle of Skye. She has a pet snail named Webster, a penchant for all things multi-coloured and an (unusual) ambition to discover the world’s best cheese. If you’d like to get in touch with Amy to discuss all this Europe, email her at

Latin America

Jenny Cranfield

Jenny is a twenty-something Anthropology graduate from the University of Southampton. With an adamant refusal to sit behind a desk between the hours of 9-5:30, she is partial to last-minute flights and spontaneous European city breaks. As well as these frequent breaks, Jenny has also spent three months living and working in Ghana where she contracted a highly infectious case of itchy feet. She is now planning on her next adventure to Australia. Other interests include an unhealthy obsession with cheese, pole fitness and daydreaming of the next far-flung journey. If you’d like to write for Latin America, drop Jenny an email at and say hello!

Middle East and Africa

Kathryn Parsons

IMG_3519Having been writing her book for ten years now, English Literature and Spanish graduate Kathryn has decided it is time to take her writing seriously. She is currently ‘sitting still’ for a while, having lived in Chile, spent many months in Malaysia and South East Asia and visited all sorts of places in between. When she isn’t writing or editing, she can probably be found hunting down vegan food, reading a book, being unwaveringly optimistic or showing off her travel photos to anyone who will look at them. If you want to write for Kathryn, get in touch with her at

North America

Nicola Walters

MeNicola recently graduated from the University of East Anglia, with a degree in English Literature and Philosophy. She does most of her travelling mentally rather than physically; a real armchair globetrotter! Most current and future earnings are earmarked for The Holiday Fund, which will take her to the U.S. on the mother of all road trips as soon as it is plump enough. With this in mind, she edits the North America section- the closest she can get in her current poverty-stricken state! Are you an expert on all things Stateside? Email Nicola at to get involved.

Emily Billington

Emily is a graduate in American Studies and English Literature at the University of Birmingham, during which time she spent a year living in Canada and travelling North America. In her spare time Emily can probably be found reading, playing netball, eating cheese straight from the block, or watching BBC dramas. She has climbed mountains in Kenya and driven Jeeps in Hawaii, but hopes to tackle East Asia next. If you love all things down under and would like to write for Oceania, drop Emily an email at and say hello!
